Adenomyoma is a disease that enlarges the uterus. It is similar to myoma but occur due to different reasons. The adenomyoma occurs when the hormone-sensitive tissue which covers inner part of the uterus, which is thickened in each period of the uterus and which is thrown out together with the menstruation, is present inside the muscle of the uterus. This tissue, which is located between the muscles of the uterus, thickens during menstruation and forms cystic lesions by bleeding into the tissue. The size of the uterus grows, the uterus softens, homogeneity is reduced. The most important symptoms:
- Pain during menstruation
- Prolonged bleeding, intermittent bleeding
- Pain in sexual intercourse
- Infertility
- Miscarriage
The diagnosis of ademioma is made by ultrasonography or MRI. The homogenous appearance of the uterus was impaired and the anteroposterior diameter was increased.
Treatment of adenomyoma
They are treated according to the patient’s age and expectations. In mild cases hormone, painkillers, hormone spiral is used. If the complaints are serious and affect the quality of life, and cause miscarriage or infertility, adenomyoma can be removed with laparoscopy.
